What’s the Difference Between THC and CBD?

October 31, 2025

THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD (cannabidiol) are two of the most well-known cannabinoids — the naturally occurring compounds found in the cannabis plant that interact with our body’s endocannabinoid system. This system helps regulate things like mood, sleep, appetite, and pain. THC is the compound responsible for the plant’s psychoactive effects — it’s what makes users feel “high” by binding to the CB1 receptors in the brain. CBD, on the other hand, doesn’t produce a high. It’s known for its calming, anti-inflammatory, and pain-relieving properties and works with other receptors throughout the body to promote balance and relaxation. Many products today combine both cannabinoids to create a more balanced experience that can support different needs, from easing stress to managing discomfort or simply helping you unwind.

At Redbarn, customers can find everything from high-THC flower and concentrates to CBD tinctures, topicals, and balanced 1:1 edibles. Check out our Menus by Location page to see the range of products, or stop by one of our stores to hear insights from our Budtenders!

How Many Edibles Should I Take? - Edible Dosage Guide

November 7, 2025

Edibles are one of the most popular and discreet ways to enjoy cannabis, but they also come with a learning curve. Because edibles must be digested and processed by the liver, their effects can take longer to kick in (anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours) and the resulting high is often more intense and longer-lasting than inhaled cannabis. For beginners, it's best to start slow and go slow. Many people begin with 2.5mg to 5mg of THC and wait at least 2 hours before considering more. This low-dose approach, often referred to as "microdosing," helps avoid overconsumption and ensures a more predictable experience.

At Redbarn, the edible menu includes a variety of dosages, and product types such as gummis, chocolates, and beverages. Check out our Menus by Location page to see the range of products, or stop by one of our stores to hear insights from our Budtenders!

What’s the Difference Between Indica and Sativa?

November 14, 2025

When most people think about cannabis, they often hear the terms Indica and Sativa. Traditionally, Indicas are associated with calming, body-focused effects that may boost mood and creativity. Scientifically, these terms were used to describe the plant's physical structure, with Indicas being shorter and bushier, and Sativas being tall and thin. However, modern cannabis strains are often hybrids, meaning they combine characteristics of both. The real determining factor in how a strain feels often comes down to its terpene and cannabinoid profile, not just its category label.

At Redbarn, customers can explore a wide range of both Indica and Sativa flower options, along with pre-rolls adn vapes that highlight the best of each strain type.  Check out our Menus by Location page to see the range of products, or stop by in-store to hear insights from our Budtenders!

Live Resin vs. Distillate — What’s the Difference?

November 21, 2025

Both live resin and distillate are popular types of cannabis concentrates, but they differ significantly in how they’re made and how they feel. The difference begins at harvest: Live resin is created from fresh-frozen cannabis plants, a process that preserves the plant's volatile, aromatic terpenes for a more flavorful, full-spectrum experience and a richer "entourage effect." Distillate, in contrast, is made from dried and cured material and undergoes an extensive purification process called distillation, resulting in an extract containing mostly isolated, high-purity THC (often 90%+ potency) and minimal terpenes — offering strong potency but less of the plant’s natural aroma and flavor. The choice between them often comes down to whether a user values flavor and entourage effects (live resin) or raw potency and purity (distillate).

At Redbarn, concentrate lovers can explore a curated selection of both styles, including live resin cartridges and distillate dabs from trusted Oregon producers. The Redbarn team is always happy to explain how extraction methods impact taste, texture, and overall experience.

How to Read a Cannabis Label

November 28, 2025

Understanding cannabis labels can feel confusing at first, but they’re essential for knowing exactly what you’re consuming. A standard cannabis label includes information such as THC percentage (potency), CBD percentage, terpene profile, and crucial batch test results and harvest dates. These details help customers make informed decisions about potency and effects, particularly by highlighting which terpenes (like Myrcene, Limonene, or Pinene) are dominant, as these compounds heavily influence the final feeling. For instance, a product with 20% THC and myrcene as a dominant terpene might offer more relaxing effects, while one with limonene might feel more uplifting.

At Redbarn, transparency and education are top priorities. Budtenders walk customers through label details, explaining how to interpret “total cannabinoids,” “harvest date,” and “test results.” By showing how every product, from flower to edibles, is clearly labeled and tested, we ensures shoppers understand what they’re buying and can confidently choose what works best for them.
